Procedure to create a Virtual Private Network (VPN) client connection
(Windows XP only) 

These instructions will help you create a connection to the Morrisville State College computer network that you can use to access campus resources, such as your “U:” or “W:” drives, Email, and printers, from off-campus.

This connection will NOT work on campus.

If you use file download software, things may look different than shown.

Before proceeding with these instructions you must:

    1. Have Windows-XP SP2 or greater

    2. Up To Date Virus Protection Software and Definitions

    3. Have an active connection to the internet.

All mouse clicks are Left Clicks unless otherwise specified.

To begin: Click  Here

This window will appear:

Click Run

Then this window will appear:

Click Run

This window will appear:

Click Yes.

You will then see a window showing files being copied, followed by this window:

If you wish to have an ICON for this connection on your desktop, make sure there is a check mark in the box next to "Add a shortcut on the desktop". If you do not want  an ICON for this connection on your desktop, make sure the box is NOT checked, then click OK.

You will see a file progress window

 

You may or may not see this window. If you do, click Continue Anyway

If you chose to have one, an icon will appear on your desktop. If you chose not to have an icon on the desktop, you will need to go the Control Panel and then Network Connections to find your VPN connection. You will use this icon to make subsequent connections, and to end an active connection.

This window will then appear:

Enter your Morrisville State College Username and Password in the appropriate spaces and click Connect.

You will see some messages in the Connection status portion of the screen and the screen will disappear. You will then see an ICON in the system tray near the clock that looks like 2 small computer monitors indicating an active connection to Morrisville State College’s network.

How to:

Disconnect your VPN session -

You should disconnect your VPN session whenever it is not being used.

To disconnect, Right Click on the ICON in the system tray near the clock and click the Disconnect button.

 

If a VPN session is idle for 30 minutes, it will be automatically disconnected.

 

Connect to your "U:" or "W:" drives -

Right Click on "My Computer", then click on "Map Network Drive"

    Then click in the "Drive:" box and select the drive letter you want, U: or W

    Then click in the "Folder:" box and type one of the following depending on which drive you want to use:

        for the U: drive type: \\myfiles\<username>$
        If you have trouble, type: \\myfiles.csntprod.morrisville.edu\<username>$

            where <username> is your Morrisville username followed by the $ with NO spaces

        for the W: drive type: \\mywebfiles\<username>$
        If you have trouble, type: \\mywebfiles.csntprod.morrisville.edu\<username>$

            where <username> is your Morrisville username followed by the $ with NO spaces

    Place a check in the box next to Reconnect at next logon and click Finish.

    You should be prompted to enter your username and password.

        Erase anything that may be in the username box

        Enter your Morrisville username  in the form: <username>@morrisville.edu in the username box

        Enter your password in the password box

        Click the OK button

    For additional information on Mapping drives please click HERE.

NOTE: If you are using a non campus computer, you will be prompted for your username and password when connecting to the campus resources. For example: Outlook, U:, W:, P:, V: drives. You should use your Morrisville username and password with the username in the form: <username>@morrisville.edu
